The Pastor of Hermas

Chap. XXIV.

"And those who believed from the seventh mountain, on which the grass was green and flourishing, and the whole of the mountain fertile, and every kind of cattle and the fowls of heaven were feeding on the grass on this mountain, and the grass on which they pastured became more abundant, were the following: they were always simple, and harmless, and blessed, bringing no charges against one another, but always rejoicing greatly because of the servants of God, and being clothed with the holy spirit of these virgins, and always having pity on every man, and giving aid from their own labour to every man, without reproach and without hesitation. ¹ The Lord, therefore, seeing their simplicity and all their meekness, multiplied them amid the labours of their hands, and gave them grace in all their doings. And I, the angel of repentance, say to you who are such, Continue to be such as these, and your seed will never be blotted out; for the Lord has made trial of you, and inscribed you in the number of us, and the whole of your seed will dwell with the Son of God; for ye have received of His Spirit."

24. Kap. Der siebte Berg.

1. „Von dem siebten [Berge] aber, [auf dem die Pflanzen] grün [und] freudig aussahen, der ganz fruchtbar war und [auf dem] Tiere und Vögel jeder Art die Pflanzen abweideten und wo diese abgeweideten Pflanzen üppiger nachwuchsen, steht es mit den Gläubigen also: 2. sie waren allezeit aufrichtig, ohne Falsch [und glücklich], sie hatten nichts gegeneinander, sondern freuten sich stets über die Diener Gottes, waren angetan <279> [mit dem Heiligen Geiste dieser] Jungfrauen und hatten stets ein Herz für jedermann, und von (dem Ertrag) ihrer Arbeit steuerten sie jedem Menschen bei ohne Schmähung und ohne Zögerung. 3. Da [nun der] Herr ihren geraden und in allem kindlichen Sinn sah, gab er ihnen reichen Segen bei ihrer Hände Arbeit und schenkte ihnen seine Gnade bei jeder Unternehmung. 4. Dieses sage ich, der Engel der Buße, euch, die ihr so beschaffen seid: Bleibet so, und euer Same wird in Ewigkeit nicht ausgetilgt werden; denn der Herr hat euch geprüft und hat euch in unsere Zahl aufgenommen, und eure ganze Nachkommenschaft wird wohnen bei dem Sohne Gottes; denn von seinem Geiste habt ihr empfangen.“
