The Pastor of Hermas
Chap. XXIX.
"And they who believed from the twelfth mountain, which was white, are the following: they are as infant children, in whose hearts no evil originates; nor did they know what wickedness is, but always remained as children. Such accordingly, without doubt, dwell in the kingdom of God, because they defiled in nothing the commandments of God; but they remained like children all the days of their life in the same mind. All of you, then, who shall remain stedfast, and be as children, 1 without doing evil, will be more honoured than all who have been previously mentioned; for all infants are honourable before God, and are the first persons with Him. 2 Blessed, then, are ye who put away wickedness from yourselves, and put on innocence. As the first of all will you live unto God."
After he had finished the similitudes of the mountains, I said to him, "Sir, explain to me now about the stones that were taken out of the plain, and put into the building instead of the stones that were taken out of the tower; and about the round stones that were put into the building; and those that still remain round."

29. Kap. Der zwölfte Berg.
1. „Die Gläubigen aber vom zwölften, weißen Berge sind also beschaffen: sie sind gleich unschuldigen Kindern, in deren Herzen nichts Böses sich regt, und sie haben nicht [erkannt], was Bosheit ist, vielmehr bewahrten sie allezeit die kindliche Unschuld. 2. Diese werden also sofort Wohnung bekommen im Reiche Gottes, weil sie in keinem Stücke die Gebote Gottes verletzt haben, sondern in kindlicher Unschuld alle Tage ihres Lebens in der gleichen Gesinnung verharrten. 3. Wenn nun ihr alle“, fuhr er fort, „bleibet und sein werdet wie die Kinder, frei vom Bösen, dann werdet ihr angesehener sein als alle die schon Genannten. Denn alle Kinder sind angesehen vor Gott, und zwar als die ersten vor ihm. Glücklich seid also ihr alle, wenn ihr die Bosheit von euch werfet und euch bekleidet mit der Unschuld; als erste von allen werdet ihr in Gott leben.“ 4. Als er mit den Gleichnissen von den Bergen zu Ende war, bat ich ihn: „Herr, kläre mich nun noch auf über die Steine, die aus der Ebene herbeigeschafft und in den Turm vermauert wurden an Stelle der aus dem Turm entfernten, auch über die rundlichen Steine, die in den Turm kamen, und über die, die immer noch eine runde Form haben.“
