25. Dankbarkeit gegen den Herrn für Alles, besonders für die kostbare Speise seines heiligen Fleisches und Blutes.

Seid allezeit dankbar, wie treue und gutgesinnte Knechte. Bei der Danksagung sprechet also: „Wir danken dir, unser Vater, für das Leben, das du uns durch Jesus, deinen Sohn, geoffenbart hast, durch welchen du auch Alles geschaffen hast und für Alles Sorge trägst, welchen du auch gesendet hast für unser Heil Mensch zu werden, welchen du leiden und sterben ließest, und welchen du auferweckt, verherrlicht und zu deiner Rechten gesetzt hast, durch welchen du auch uns die Auferstehung der Todten versprochen hast. Du allmächtiger Herr, ewiger Gott, gleichwie Dieß (in Körnerform) zerstreut war und in Verbindung gebracht ein Brod geworden ist, so sammle deine Kirche von den Enden der Erde zu einem Reiche. Noch sagen wir dir, unser Vater, Dank für das kostbare Blut Jesu Christi, das er für uns vergossen hat, und für den kostbaren Leib, dessen abbildliche (ἀντίτυπα) Feier wir hier begehen, da er selbst es uns verordnet hat, seinen Tod zu verkünden,¹ denn durch diesen sei dir auch Ehre in Ewigkeit. Amen.”

Keiner von Denen, die nicht eingeweiht (getauft) sind, soll von diesem Brode essen, sondern nur die auf den Tod des Herrn Getauften. Wenn aber Jemand, der nicht eingeweiht, heimlich daran Theil nimmt, so ißt er das ewige Gericht hinein;² denn da er dem Glauben an Christus nicht zugethan ist, empfängt er das, worauf er kein Recht S. 233 hat zu seiner Strafe. Wenn aber Jemand aus Unkenntniß Theil nähme, so unterrichtet ihn ohne Verzug und weihet ihn ein, damit er nicht als Verächter hinweggehe.

XXXV. A Mystical Thanksgiving.

Be ye always thankful, as faithful and honest servants; and concerning the eucharistical thanksgiving say thus:¹ We thank Thee, our Father, for that life which Thou hast made known to us by Jesus Thy Son, by whom Thou madest all things, and takest care of the whole world; whom Thou hast sent to become man for our salvation; whom Thou hast permitted to suffer and to die; whom Thou hast raised up, and been pleased to glorify, and hast set Him down on Thy right hand; by whom Thou hast promised us the resurrection of the dead. Do thou, O Lord Almighty, everlasting God, so gather together Thy Church from the ends of the earth into Thy kingdom, as this corn was once scattered, and is now become one loaf. We also, our Father, thank Thee for the precious blood of Jesus Christ, which was shed for us and for His precious body, whereof we celebrate this representation, as Himself appointed us, "to show forth His death."² For through Him glory is to be given to Thee for ever. Amen. Let no one eat of these things that is not initiated; but those only who have been baptized into the death of the Lord. But if any one that is not initiated conceal himself, and partake of the same, "he eats eternal damnation;"³ because, being not of the faith of Christ, he has partaken of such things as it is not lawful for him to partake of, to his own punishment. But if any one is a partaker through ignorance, instruct him quickly, and initiate him, that he may not go out and despise you.
