24. Von den Jungfrauen; Konstitution des Nämlichen.

Bezüglich der Jungfrauen verordne ich: Eine Jungfrau werde nicht geweiht, denn wir haben kein Gebot des Herrn. Dem freien Entschluß gebührt ja der Kampfespreis: nicht zur Verurtheilung der Ehe, sondern zur Pflege der Frömmigkeit (ist sie da).

XXIV. The Same Apostle's Constitution Concerning Virgins.

I, the same, make a constitution in regard to virgins: A virgin is not ordained, for we have no such command from the Lord;¹ for this is a state of voluntary trial, not for the reproach of marriage, but on account of leisure for piety.
