29. Über die Würde des Bischofs und der Diakonen.

Wenn Aaron, dieweilen er im Namen Mosis dem Pharao eine Botschaft hinterbrachte, Prophet genannt worden ist, Moses aber Gott des Pharao, so daß er zugleich König und Hoherpriester war, wie Gott zu ihm sprach: „Als Gott habe ich dich dem Pharao vorgesetzt, und dein Bruder Aaron wird dein Prophet sein”,¹ warum sollet nicht auch ihr die Vermittler eures Wortes für Propheten halten und sie ehren wie Gott?

XXIX. What is the Dignity of a Bishop and of a Deacon.

For if Aaron, because he declared to Pharaoh the words of God from Moses, is called a prophet; and Moses himself is called a god to Pharaoh, on account of his being at once a king and a high priest, as God says to him, "I have made thee a god to Pharaoh, and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet;"¹ why do not ye also esteem the mediators of the word to be prophets, and reverence them as gods?
