53. Er macht sich zum Gott in seinem Übermuthe.

Wenn Dieses so geschehen wird, Geliebter, und die drei Hörner von ihm abgeschlagen sind, dann wird er anfangen, sich als Gott zu zeigen, wie Ezechiel vorhergesagt hat: „Dafür, daß sich erhöhet hat dein Herz und du gesagt hast: Gott bin ich.“¹ In ähnlicher Weise Isaias: „Der du gesprochen in deinem Herzen: Zum Himmel will ich aufsteigen, über die Gestirne Gottes erhöhen meinen Thron, ... gleich sein dem Allerhöchsten. Ja doch — zum Todtenreiche stürzest du hinab, in die Tiefe der Grube.“² So auch Ezechiel: „Wirst du sagen, sprechend: Gott bin ich, Angesichts deiner Mörder, der du Mensch bist, nicht Gott.“³

53.

These things, then, shall be in the future, beloved; and when the three horns are cut off, he will begin to show himself as God, as Ezekiel has said aforetime: "Because thy heart has been lifted up, and thou hast said, I am God." ¹ And to the like effect Isaiah says: "For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of heaven: I will be like the Most High. Yet now thou shalt be brought down to hell (Hades), to the foundations of the earth." ² In like manner also Ezekiel: "Wilt thou yet say to those who slay thee, I am God? But thou (shalt be) a man, and no God." ³
