56.

Diese kurze Abhandlung sei dir, Freund Christi, als erster Entwurf und Abriß einer Glaubenslehre über Christus und seine göttliche Ankunft unter uns gewidmet! Du aber wirst diesen Anlaß benützen, dich mit den biblischen Schriften zu befassen und ehrlichen Sinnes in sie dich vertiefen, um zum Verständnis ihres Inhalts zu gelangen und damit auch zu einer vollkommeneren und klareren Erkenntnis dessen, was wir gesagt haben. Denn in jenen Schriften hat Gott durch gottesgelehrte Männer geredet und geschrieben. Wir aber tradieren dir auch zu deinem Studium, was wir von den S. 675 gotterleuchteten Lehrern gelernt haben, die auf das Schriftstudium sich verlegten und sogar Märtyrer für die Gottheit Christi geworden sind. Du wirst aber auch von seiner zweiten herrlichen und wahrhaft göttlichen Ankunft bei uns Kenntnis erhalten, wann er nicht mehr in Niedrigkeit kommt, sondern in seiner Herrlichkeit, nicht mehr in Demut, sondern in seiner Majestät, nicht mehr, um zu leiden, sondern um dann allen die Frucht seines Kreuzes mitzuteilen, nämlich die Auferstehung und die Unverweslichkeit. Auch wird er nicht mehr gerichtet; vielmehr richtet er alle, einen jeden nach dem Guten oder Bösen, das er mit seinem Leibe getan hat¹. Da ist den Guten das Himmelreich aufbehalten, den Übeltätern aber das ewige Feuer und die äußerste Finsternis. Denn so spricht der Herr selbst: „Ich sage euch: von nun an werdet ihr den Menschensohn zur Rechten der Kraft sitzen und auf den Wolken des Himmels kommen sehen, in der Herrlichkeit des Vaters“². Darum lautet auch ein heilsames Wort, das uns auf jenen Tag vorbereiten will: „Seid bereit und wachet; denn er kommt zu einer Stunde, die ihr nicht wisset“³. Denn nach dem seligen Paulus „müssen wir alle vor dem Richterstuhl Christi erscheinen, damit ein jeder empfange, was er in seinem Leibe Gutes oder Böses getan hat“⁴.

Incarnation of the Word

§56.Search then, the Scriptures, if you can, and so fill up this sketch. Learn to look for the Second Advent and Judgment.

1. Let this, then, Christ-loving man, be our offering to you, just for a rudimentary sketch and outline, in a short compass, of the faith of Christ and of His Divine appearing to usward. But you, taking occasion by this, if you light upon the text of the Scriptures, by genuinely applying your mind to them, will learn from them more completely and clearly the exact detail of what we have said.

2. For they were spoken and written by God, through men who spoke of God. But we impart of what we have learned from inspired teachers who have been conversant with them, who have also become martyrs for the deity of Christ, to your zeal for learning, in turn.

3. And you will also learn about His second glorious and truly divine appearing to us, when no longer in lowliness, but in His own glory,—no longer in humble guise, but in His own magnificence,—He is to come, no more to suffer, but thenceforth to render to all the fruit of His own Cross, that is, the resurrection and incorruption; and no longer to be judged, but to judge all, by what each has done in the body, whether good or evil; where there is laid up for the good the kingdom of heaven, but for them that have done evil everlasting fire and outer darkness.

4. For thus the Lord Himself also says: “Henceforth ¹ ye shall see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of power, and coming on the clouds of heaven in the glory of the Father.”

5. And for this very reason there is also a word of the Saviour to prepare us for that day, in these words: “Be ² ye ready and watch, for He cometh at an hour ye know not.” For, according to the blessed Paul: “We ³ must all stand before the judgment-seat of Christ, that each one P. 67 may receive according as he hath done in the body, whether it be good or bad.”
