Ἐκκλησιαστικὴ ἱστορία

Γ Ὅπως Κυπριανὸς ἅμα τοῖς κατ' αὐτὸν ἐπισκόποις τοὺς ἐξ αἱρετικῆς πλάνης ἐπιστρέφοντας λουτρῶι δεῖν καθαίρειν πρῶτος ἐδογμάτισεν.

[7.3.1] πρῶτος τῶν τότε Κυπριανός, τῆς κατὰ Καρχηδόνα παροικίας ποιμήν, οὐδ' ἄλλως ἢ διὰ λουτροῦ πρότερον τῆς πλάνης ἀποκαθηραμένους προσίεσθαι δεῖν ἡγεῖτο. ἀλλ' ὅ γε Στέφανος μὴ δεῖν τι νεώτερον παρὰ τὴν κρατήσασαν ἀρχῆθεν παράδοσιν ἐπικαινοτομεῖν οἰόμενος, ἐπὶ τούτωι διηγανάκτει·

The Church History of Eusebius

Chapter III.--Cyprian, and the Bishops with him, first taught that it was necessary to purify by Baptism those converted from Heresy.

First of all, Cyprian, pastor of the parish of Carthage, 1 maintained that they should not be received except they had been purified from their error by baptism. But Stephen considering it unnecessary to add any innovation contrary to the tradition which had been held from the beginning, was very indignant at this. 2
