There is a story relating to Majomites of Gaza which it is impossible to pass over in silence. While quarrying building stones on the shore not far from the monastery he was helplessly paralysed, and after being carried to the saint by his fellow-workman immediately returned to his work in perfect health. I ought to explain that the shore of Palestine and Egypt naturally consists of soft sand and gravel which gradually becomes consolidated and hardens into rock; and thus though to the eye it remains the same it is no longer the same to the touch.

Es bleibt mir noch die Heilung des Gazanus aus Majuma zu berichten. Nicht weit vom Kloster brach er an der Meeresküste Bausteine, als er vom Schlage getroffen wurde. Seine Arbeitsgenossen brachten ihn zum Heiligen, und sofort kehrte er gesund zu seiner Beschäftigung zurück. Es besteht nämlich die Küste, welche sich vor Palästina und Ägypten hinzieht, S. 47 aus weichem Sandboden, der sich zu rauhem Felsgestein verhärtet; denn der Kies bildet allmählich eine zusammenhängende Masse, die sich nicht mehr wie Sand anfühlt, wenn sie auch dem Auge als solcher erscheint.
