CHAPITRE XVIII. RAPPROCHEMENT ENTRE L'AGE DE NOÉ ET LES AGES DU MONDE.
Pourquoi Noé avait-il cinq cents ans quand Dieu lui ordonna de construire l'arche, et six cents ans quand il y entra[^1] (ce qui laisse entendre qu'il mit cent ans à cet ouvrage), sinon parce que chaque centaine d'années signifie ici un des âges du monde? Voilà pourquoi le sixième âge, qui est marqué par l'augmentation de cinq cents à six cents, construit l'Église par la prédication évangélique. Ainsi celui qui aspire à la vie doit être comme un bois équarri, prêt à toute sorte de bonnes oeuvres, et entrer dans la sainte construction; parce que le second mois de la six centième année, où Noé entra dans l'arche, désigna ce même âge, le sixième du monde; car deus mois sont renfermés dans le nombre soixante; et c'est le nombre six qui donne son nom à soixante, à six cents, à six mille, à soixante, mille, à six cent mille, à six cent fois, et ainsi de suite jusqu'à l'infini, à toute multiplication qui le prend pour point de départ.

That Noah was five hundred years old when God told him to make the ark, and six hundred when he entered the ark; which shows that the ark was made during one hundred years, which seem to correspond to the years of an age of the world. So the sixth age is occupied with the construction of the Church by the preaching of the gospel. The man who avails himself of the offer of salvation is made like a square beam, fitted for every good work, and forms part of the sacred fabric. Again, it was the second month of the six hundredth year when Noah entered the ark, and in two months there are sixty days; so that here, as in every multiple of six, we have the number denoting the sixth age.
