Crescent de Cirta s’exprima en ces termes : « En présence de cette auguste assemblée de nos collègues dans le sacerdoce; après la lecture des lettres de notre bien-aimé Cyprien à Jubaianus et à Etienne; après l’interprétation qui y est donnée des passages les plus formels et les plus imposants des saintes Ecritures; frappé par l’évidence et persuadé par la grâce de Dieu qui nous rassemble, je déclare que les hérétiques et les schismatiques qui veulent entrer dans l’unité de l’Eglise catholique ne doivent y être reçus qu’après avoir reçu l’exorcisme et le baptême; je n’excepte que ceux qui ont été baptisés dans l’Eglise catholique avant de tomber dans l’hérésie, car pour les réconcilier à l’Eglise il leur suffit de l’imposition des mains pour la pénitence ».

Crescens of Cirta ¹ said: "The letters of our most beloved Cyprian to Jubaianus, and also to Stephen, ² having been read in so large an assembly of our most holy brethren in the priesthood, containing as they do so large a body of sacred testimony derived from the Scriptures that give us our God, ³ that we have every reason to assent to them, being all united by the grace of God, I give my judgment that all heretics or schismatics who wish to come to the Catholic Church should not enter therein unless they have been first exorcised and baptized; with the obvious exception of those who have been originally baptized in the Catholic Church, these being reconciled and admitted to the penance of the Church by the imposition of hands." ⁴
