5. Wittwen und Waisen sollen mit Ehrfurcht und Dank die empfangenen Wohlthaten genießen.
Wittwen und Waisen geben wir den Rath, mit aller Ehrfurcht das zu ihrem Unterhalte Beigesteuerte anzunehmen und Gott zu danken, der den Hungrigen Speise gibt, und zu ihm ihre Augen zu erheben,1 „denn,„ so heißt es, „wer ißt oder trinkt ohne ihn? Denn er thut auf seine Hand und sättigt alles Lebendige mit Segen;2 gibt Brod den Jünglingen und Wein den Jungfrauen3 und Öl zur Freude der Lebendigen; Gras für das Vieh und Kräuter zum Nutzen der Menschen, Fleisch für die wilden Thiere, Samenkörner für die Vögel, für Alle die geeignete Nahrung. Deßwegen sagt auch der Herr: „Betrachtet die Vögel des Himmels; sie säen nicht und ernten nicht, sammeln nicht in die Scheuern, und euer himmlischer Vater ernähret sie. Seid denn ihr nicht viel mehr als sie? Kümmert euch also nicht und saget nicht: Was werden wir essen, was werden wir trinken, oder womit werden wir uns bekleiden? Denn euer Vater weiß, daß ihr all dessen bedürfet.“4 Da ihr also solcher Fürsorge von ihm euch erfreuet und seine Gaben empfanget, so sollet ihr den allmächtigen Gott, der die Waisen und Wittwen in Obhut nimmt, loben und preisen durch seinen geliebten Sohn Jesum Christum, unsern Herrn, durch welchen die Ehre Gott, im Geiste und in Wahrheit, in Ewigkeit. Amen.

Constitutions of the Holy Apostles
V. With What Fear Men Ought to Partake of the Lord's Oblations.
We exhort, therefore, the widows and orphans to partake of those things that are bestowed upon them with all fear, and all pious reverence, and to return thanks to God who gives food to the needy, and to lift up their eyes to Him. For, says He, "Which of you shall eat, or who shall drink without Him? For He openeth His hand, and filleth every living thing with His kindness: giving wheat to the young men, and wine to the maidens, and oil for the joy of the living, grass for the cattle, and green herb for the service of men, flesh for the wild beasts, seeds for the birds, and suitable food for all creatures."1 Wherefore the Lord says:2 "Consider the fowls of heaven,3 that they sow not, neither do they reap nor gather into barns, and your Father feedeth them. Are not ye much better than they? Be not therefore solicitous, saying, What shall we eat? or what shall we drink? For your Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things."4 Since ye therefore enjoy such a providential care from Him, and are partakers of the good things that are derived from Him, you ought to return praise to Him that receives the orphan and the widow, to Almighty God, through His beloved Son Jesus Christ our Lord; through whom5 glory be to God in spirit and truth for ever.
