XXXVII. A Prayer Containing the Memorial of His Providence, and an Enumeration of the Various Benefits Afforded the Saints by the Providence of God Through Christ.

Thou who hast fulfilled Thy promises made by the prophets, and hast had mercy on Zion, and compassion on Jerusalem, by exalting the throne of David, Thy servant, in the midst of her, by the birth of Christ, who was born of his seed according to the flesh, of a virgin alone; do Thou now, O Lord God, accept the prayers which proceed from the lips of Thy people which are of the Gentiles, which call upon Thee in truth, as Thou didst accept of the gifts of the righteous in their generations. In the first place Thou did respect the sacrifice of Abel,¹ and accept it as Thou didst accept of the sacrifice of Noah when he went out of the ark;² of Abraham, when he went out of the land of the Chaldeans;³ of Isaac at the Well of the Oath;⁴ of Jacob in Bethel;⁵ of Moses in the desert;⁶ of Aaron between the dead and the living;⁷ of Joshua the son of Nun in Gilgal;⁸ of Gideon at the rock, and the fleeces, before his sin;⁹ of Manoah and his wife in the field; of Samson in his thirst before the transgression;¹⁰ of Jephtha in the war before his rash vow; of Barak and Deborah in the days of Sisera;¹¹ of Samuel in Mizpeh;¹² of David in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite;¹³ of Solomon in Gibeon and in Jerusalem:¹⁴ of Elijah in Mount Carmel;¹⁵ of Elisha at the barren fountain;¹⁶ of Jehoshaphat in war;¹⁷ of Hezekiah in his sickness, and concerning Sennacherib;¹⁸ of Manasseh in the land of the Chaldeans, after his transgression;¹⁹ of Josiah in Phassa;²⁰ of Ezra at the return;²¹ of Daniel in the den of lions;²² of Jonah in the whale's belly;²³ of the three children in the fiery furnace;²⁴ of Hannah in the tabernacle before the ark;²⁵ of Nehemiah at the rebuilding of the walls;²⁶ of Zerubbabel; of Mattathias and his sons in their zeal;²⁷ of Jael in blessings. Now also do Thou receive the prayers of Thy people which are offered to Thee with knowledge, through Christ in the Spirit.

37. Bitte, Gott möge, wie in alter Zeit, so auch jetzt, die Gebete der Seinen gnädig aufnehmen.

O Herr und Gott, der du die Weissagungen der Propheten in Erfüllung gebracht und über Sion und Jerusalem dich erbarmt hast, indem du in dessen Mitte den Thron deines Sohnes David aufgerichtet, da Christus, dem Fleisch nach von David abstammend, aus einer Jungfrau geboren ward: nimm nun auch gnädig auf die mündlich ausgesprochenen Bitten deines aus den Heiden berufenen Volkes, welches dich in Wahrheit anruft, gleichwie du seiner Zeit gnädig aufgenommen hast die Opfer der Gerechten: des Abel erstlich, auf dessen Opfer du gnädig geblickt und das du angenommen hast;¹ des Noe,² als er aus der Arche getreten; des Abraham,³ nachdem er aus dem Lande der Chaldäer gezogen; des Isaak⁴ am Brunnen des Schwures; des Jakob⁵ in Bethlehem; des Moses⁶ in der Wüste; des Aaron⁷ mitten unter Lebenden und Todten; des Jesus Nave⁸ in Galgala; des Gedeon⁹ auf dem Felsen und beim Vließ vor seinem Fall;¹⁰ des Manue und seines Weibes¹¹ auf dem Felde; des Samson¹² bei seinem Durst S. 246 vor dem Vergehen; des Jephte¹³ im Kriege vor dem übereilten Versprechen; des Barak und der Debora¹⁴ in Sisara; des Samuel¹⁵ in Maspha; des David¹⁶ bei der Tenne Ornans, des Jebusiters; des Salomon¹⁷ in Gabaon und Jerusalem; des Elias auf dem Berg Karmel¹⁸; des Elisäus¹⁹ an der unfruchtbaren Quelle; des Josaphat im Kriege;²⁰ des Ezechias²¹ bei der Krankheit und (dem Angriff) Senacheribs; des Manasses im Lande der Chaldäer²² nach seinem Falle; des Josias²³ zu Ostern; des Esdras²⁴ bei der Rückkehr; des Daniel²⁵ in der Löwengrube; des Jonas²⁶ im Bauche des Meerfisches; der drei Jünglinge im Feuerofen;²⁷ der Anna²⁸ im Tempel vor dem Angesichte der Lade; des Nehemias und Zorobabel²⁹ beim Aufbau der Mauern; des Mathathias³⁰ und seiner Söhne in ihrem Eifer für dich; der Jäel³¹ bei ihren Segnungen. Erhöre also auch jetzt die Bitten deines Volkes, welche mit Einsicht durch Christus im hl. Geiste dir dargebracht werden.
