Book VIII. Concerning Gifts, and Ordinations, and the Ecclesiastical Canons.

XXXIX. The Imposition of Hands for the Morning.

O God, who art faithful and true, who "hast mercy on thousands and ten thousands of them that love Thee,"1 the lover of the humble, and the protector of the needy, of whom all things stand in need, for all things are subject to Thee; look down upon this Thy people, who bow down their heads to Thee, and bless them with spiritual blessing. "Keep them as the apple of an eye,"2 preserve them in piety and righteousness, and vouchsafe them eternal life in Christ Jesus Thy beloved Son, with whom glory, honour, and worship be to Thee and to the Holy Spirit, now and always, and for ever and ever. Amen. And let the deacon say: "Depart in peace." And when the first-fruits are offered, the bishop gives thanks in this manner:--
