There are many other points which we cannot take notice of even in this cursory manner. Why in the six hundred and first year of Noah's life--that is, after six hundred years were completed--the covering of the ark is removed, and the hidden mystery, as it were, disclosed. Why the earth is said to have dried on the twenty-seventh day of the second month; as if the number fifty-seven denoted the completion of the rite of baptism. For the twenty-seventh day of the second month is the fifty-seventh day of the year; and the number fifty-seven is seven times eight, which are the numbers of the spirit and the body, with one over, to denote the bond of unity. Why they leave the ark together, though they entered separately. For it is said: "Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons' wives with him, into the ark;" the men and the women being spoken of separately; which denotes the time when the flesh lusteth against the spirit, and the spirit against the flesh. But they go forth, Noah and his wife, and his sons and their wives,--the men and women together. For in the end of the world, and in the resurrection of the just, the body will be united to the spirit in perfect harmony, undisturbed by the wants and the passions of mortality. Why, after leaving the ark, only clean animals are offered in sacrifice to God, though both clean and unclean were in the ark.

Es würde zu weit führen, wollte ich sämtliche weiteren Ankündigungen Christi auch nur im Vorbeigehen berühren, wie ich es bisher tat:

Warum wird das Verdeck der Arche im 601. Lebensjahr Noes, d.h. nachdem er 600 Jahre alt geworden ist, geöffnet (cf. Gen. 8,13), und warum lässt sich das so deuten, dass hier ein Heilsgeheimnis enthüllt wird, das bisher verborgen war?

Warum heisst es, dass am 27.Tag des zweiten Monats die Erde trocken war (cf. Gen. 8,14), und warum soll die Zahl von 57 Tagen so gedeutet werden können, dass nun die Notwendigkeit der Taufe nicht mehr besteht? Nun bedeutet ja die Zahl 57 den 27.Tag des zweiten Monats, und diese Zahl besteht aus der Multiplikation von sieben mal acht, was auf jene Verbindung von Körper und Geist Bezug nimmt (cf. 345,12), vermehrt um die Zahl eins, womit das Band der Einheit gemeint ist.

Warum verlassen die selben Menschen die Arche ehepaarweise, die sie getrennt nach Geschlechtern betreten hatten? Der Text lautet nämlich so (cf. Gen. 7,7), dass Noe und seine Söhne in die Arche gingen, und dann seine Frau und die Ehefrauen seiner Söhne; gesondert sind die Männer, gesondert die Frauen erwähnt. Denn zur Zeit, in der dieses Heilsgeschehen real ablief, richtet sich das Fleisch gegen den Geist und der Geist gegen das Fleisch (Gal. 5,17). Hinaus aber gehen Noe mit seiner Ehefrau, und seine Söhne mit ihren Ehefrauen (cf. Gen. 8,16), indem nun Männer und Frauen gemischt erwähnt werden, weil ja am Ende der Zeit und bei der Auferstehung der Gerechten der Leib mit dem Geist in uneingeschränktem und vollkommenem Frieden verbunden sein wird, den keine Bedürftigkeit oder Begehrlichkeit der sterblichen Natur stören wird. Warum werden Gott nach dem Verlassen der Arche nur reine Tiere zum Opfer dargebracht, obwohl sich doch in der Arche sowohl reine wie unreine Tiere befunden hatten?
