25.

You say that Christ was not foretold by the prophets of Israel, when, in fact, their Scriptures teem with such predictions, if you would only examine them carefully, instead of treating them with levity. Who in Abraham leaves his country and kindred that he may become rich and prosperous among strangers, but He who, leaving the land and country of the Jews, of whom He was born in the flesh, is now extending His power, as we see, among the Gentiles? Who in Isaac carried the wood for His own sacrifice, but He who carried His own cross? Who is the ram for sacrifice, caught by the horns in a. bush, but He who was fastened to the cross as an offering for us?

CHAPITRE XXV. ABRAHAM, ISAAC, LE BÉLIER, FIGURES DU CHRIST.

Vous dites que le Christ n'a point été prédit par les Prophètes israélites; et toutes leurs pages sont pleines de prédictions qui le concernent, si vous vouliez les étudier avec piété, au lieu de les censurer avec légèreté. Qui donc, dans la personne d'Abraham, sort de sa terre et de sa parenté pour s'enrichir chez les étrangers[^2], sinon Celui qui, abandonnant sa terre et sa parenté juive, dont il est né selon la chair, obtient chez les nations cette autorité et cet empire que nous lui voyons? Qui dans la personne d'Isaac, a porté le bois de son sacrifice[^3], sinon celui qui a porté lui-même la croix, instrument de sa passion ? Quel était ce bélier à immoler et embarrassé dans un buisson par ses cornes, sinon celui qui, devant être immolé pour nous, a été attaché au gibet de la croix ?
