Works Cyprian of Carthage (200-258) Ad Quirinum (Testimoniorum l. iii) Three Books of Testimonies Against the Jews
Third Book.

23.

That evil is not to be returned for evil.

In the Epistle of Paul to the Romans: "Rendering to no man evil for evil." 1 Also in the same place: "Not to be overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good." 2 Of this same thing in the Apocalypse: "And He said unto me, Seal not the words of the prophecy of this book; because now the time is at hand. And let those who persist in hurting, hurt: and let him who is filthy, be filthy still: but let the righteous do still more righteousness: and in like manner, let him that is holy do still more holiness. Behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to render to every man according to his deeds." 3
