Ialdabaoth, again, being incensed with men, because they did not worship or honour him as father and God, sent forth a deluge upon them, that he might at once destroy them all. But Sophia opposed him in this point also, and Noah and his family were saved in the ark by means of the besprinkling of that light which proceeded from her, and through it the world was again filled with mankind. Ialdabaoth himself chose a certain man named Abraham from among these, and made a covenant with him, to the effect that, if his seed continued to serve him, he would give to them the earth for an inheritance. Afterwards, by means of Moses, he brought forth Abraham's descendants from Egypt, and gave them the law, and made them the Jews. Among that people he chose seven days, 1 which they also call the holy Hebdomad. Each of these receives his own herald for the purpose of glorifying and proclaiming God; so that, when the rest hear these praises, they too may serve those who are announced as gods by the prophets.

The Latin here is "ex quibus," and the meaning is exceedingly obscure. Harvey thinks it is the representative ex on (chronon) in the Greek, but we prefer to refer it to "Judaeos," as above. The next sentence seems unintelligible: but, according to Harvey, "each deified day of the week had his ministering prophets." ↩

Aus Zorn aber über die Menschen, die ihn nicht ehrten noch verehrten, sandte ihnen Ialdabaoth als ihr Vater und Gott die Sintflut, um alle auf einmal zu vernichten. Da jedoch auch hier die Sophia sich widersetzte, wurden die gerettet, die bei Noe in der Arche waren, und zwar wegen jenes Lichttaues, der von ihr stammte, und durch diesen ist die Welt wiederum mit Menschen erfüllt worden. Aus diesen wählte Ialdabaoth selber einen gewissen Abraham aus und schloß mit ihm einen Bund: wenn sein Same in seinem Dienste verharre, wolle er ihm die Erde zum Erbe geben. Später führte er die Nachkommen Abrahams aus Ägypten hinaus und gab ihnen das Gesetz und machte sie zu Juden. Von diesen wählte er sieben Götter aus, die sie die heilige Siebenzahl nennen. Jeder von ihnen wählte sich, damit sein Ruhm und seine Gottheit verkündet werde, einen besonderen Propheten aus, damit auch die übrigen, den Lobpreis hörend, den Göttern dienten, die von den Propheten verkündet wurden.
