2.

For Peter said, "Ye men of Israel, hear my words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved by God among you by powers, and wonders, and signs, which God did by Him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, by the hands of wicked men ye have slain, affixing [to the cross]: whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death; because it was not possible that he should be holden of them. For David speaketh concerning Him, ¹ I foresaw the Lord always before my face; for He is on my right hand, lest I should be moved: therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also, my flesh shall rest in hope: because Thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt Thou give Thy Holy One to see corruption." ² Then he proceeds to speak confidently to them concerning the patriarch David, that he was dead and buried, and that his sepulchre is with them to this day. He said, "But since he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his body one should sit in his throne; foreseeing this, he spake of the resurrection of Christ, that He was not left in hell, neither did His flesh see corruption. This Jesus," he said, "hath God raised up, of which we all are witnesses: who, being exalted by the right hand of God, receiving from the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, hath shed forth this gift ³ which ye now see and hear. For David has not ascended into the heavens; but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit Thou on My right hand, until I make Thy foes Thy footstool. Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ." ⁴ And when the multitudes exclaimed, "What shall we do then?" Peter says to them, "Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost." ⁵ Thus the apostles did not preach another God, or another Fulness; nor, that the Christ who suffered and rose again was one, while he who flew off on high was another, and remained impassible; but that there was one and the same God the Father, and Christ Jesus who rose from the dead; and they preached faith in Him, to those who did not believe on the Son of God, and exhorted them out of the prophets, that the Christ whom God promised to send, He sent in Jesus, whom they crucified and God raised up.

„Ihr Männer Israels“, sprach Petrus, „höret meine Reden: Jesum von Nazareth, einen Mann, den Gott unter euch durch Taten und Wunder und Zeichen ausgezeichnet hat, die Gott durch ihn in eurer Mitte wirkte, wie ihr selbst wißt, den habt ihr, als er nach vorhergefaßtem Plane und gemäß der Vorsehung Gottes durch die Hände der Gottlosen ausgeliefert war, ans Kreuz geheftet S. 247und getötet. Aber Gott hat ihn auferweckt, nachdem die Schmerzen der Hölle gebrochen waren, da er ja unmöglich von ihnen festgehalten werden konnte. David sagt nämlich mit Bezug auf ihn: Ich sah den Herrn vor meinem Angesichte immer, da er zu meiner Rechten ist, damit ich nicht wanke. Deswegen freute sich mein Herz und es frohlockte meine Zunge, und mein Fleisch dazu wird ruhen in der Hoffnung. Denn Du lässest meine Seele nicht in der Hölle, noch wirst Du Deinem Heiligen zu sehen geben die Verwesung.“ Dann spricht er zu ihnen mit Nachdruck von dem Patriarchen David, wie er gestorben und begraben ist und sein Grab bei ihnen bis auf den heutigen Tag ist, und fährt fort: „Weil er aber ein Prophet war und wußte, daß mit einem Eid ihm Gott geschworen hat, von der Frucht seines Leibes werde einer sitzen auf seinem Thron, so hat er vorausschauend von der Auferstehung Christi gesprochen, daß dieser nicht in der Hölle gelassen und sein Fleisch die Verwesung nicht sehen werde. Diesen Jesus, sagt er, hat Gott auferweckt, davon sind wir alle Zeugen; dieser ist zur Rechten Gottes erhöht, und indem er die Verheißung des Hl. Geistes vom Vater empfing, goß er diese Gabe aus, wie ihr nun sehet und höret. Denn David ist nicht in den Himmel gefahren, und doch spricht er: Es sprach der Herr zu meinem Herrn: Setze dich zu meiner Rechten, bis daß ich lege Deine Feinde zum Schemel Deiner Füße. Unfehlbar wisse also das ganze Haus Israel, daß Gott zum Herrn und Christus diesen Jesus gemacht hat, den ihr gekreuzigt habt.“ Als dann die Scharen sprachen: „Was sollen wir tun?“ da sprach Petrus zu ihnen: „Tuet Buße und ein jeder von euch lasse sich taufen im Namen Jesu zur Vergebung der Sünden und ihr werdet das Geschenk des Hl. Geistes empfangen“¹ . So haben also die Apostel keinen anderen Gott und kein anderes Pleroma verkündet, noch unterscheiden sie einen Christus, der gelitten hat und auferstanden ist, von einem oberen, leidensunfähigen. Sie kennen nur einen Gott Vater und einen Christus Jesus, der von den Toten auferstanden ist. Und den Glauben an ihn S. 248verkündeten sie denen, die nicht glaubten an den Sohn Gottes, und aus den Propheten wiesen sie ihnen nach, daß Gott, der da versprochen hatte, den Christus zu senden, diesen Jesus schickte, den jene kreuzigten, Gott aber auferweckte.
