KAPITEL VIII.

Nein, keineswegs, ich bitte und flehe inständigst. Ich kenne meine Seele, ich weiß, wie schwach und kleinmütig sie ist. Ich kenne die Erhabenheit jenes Amtes und die ungeheuere Schwierigkeit, es zu verwalten. Denn mehr noch als der Winde, die das Meer aufwühlen, sind die Wogen, welche die Seele des Priesters beunruhigen.

Do not thus, I pray and beseech you. I know my own soul, how feeble and puny it is: I know the magnitude of this ministry, and the great difficulty of the work; for more stormy billows vex the soul of the priest than the gales which disturb the sea.
