Der Hirte des Hermas (BKV)
33. Kap. Warum die Hohlräume der aus der Ebene genommenen Steine ausgefüllt wurden.
1. „All das, was hier oben niedergeschrieben ist, habe ich, der Hirte, der Engel der Buße, den Dienern Gottes dargelegt und verkündigt. Wenn ihr also glaubet, auf meine Worte höret, in ihnen wandelt und eure Wege bessert, werdet ihr das Leben haben können. Wenn ihr aber verharret in böser Gesinnung und das Unrecht nicht vergesset, so wird keiner von dieser Verfassung leben in Gott. Ich habe euch all das, wie ich musste, gesagt.“ 2. Zu mir sprach der Hirte selbst noch: „Hast du mich nach allem gefragt?“ Ich sagte: „Ja, Herr.“ „Warum hast du mich nicht gefragt nach der Form der Steine, die in den Bau kamen, deren Formen S. 286 wir ausgefüllt haben?“ „Das habe ich vergessen, Herr.“ 3. „Vernimm mich jetzt darüber. Das sind die, welche jetzt meine Gebote gehört und aus ganzem Herzen Buße getan haben. Als der Herr sah, dass ihre Buße gut und rein sei und dass sie in ihr verharren werden, befahl er, ihre früheren Sünden zu tilgen. Diese Formen waren nämlich ihre Sünden; sie wurden ausgefüllt, damit man sie nicht mehr sehen kann.“

Chap. XXXIII.
"All these things which are written above, I, the Shepherd, the messenger of repentance, have showed and spoken to the servants of God. 1 If therefore ye believe, and listen to my words, and walk in them, and amend your ways, you shall have it in your power to live: but if you remain in wickedness, and in the recollection of offences, no sinner of that class will live unto God. All these words which I had to say have been spoken unto you."
The Shepherd said to me, "Have you asked me everything?" And I replied, "Yes, sir." "Why did you not ask me about the shape of the stones that were put into the building, that I might explain to you why we filled up the shapes?" And I said, "I forgot, sir." "Hear now, then," he said, "about this also. These are they who have now heard my commandments, and repented with their whole hearts. And when the Lord saw that their repentance was good and pure, and that they were able to remain in it, He ordered their former sins to be blotted out. 2 For these shapes were their sins, and they were levelled down, that they might not appear."
