An forte, quae de novo testamento similia protulimus, ipsa quoque audent dicere falsa esse atque perversa privilegio illo suo diabolico, ut quicquid est in evangelio vel epistulis canonicis, quo adiuvari haeresim suam putent, id esse a Christo et apostolis dictum teneant atque suadeant, p. 603,22 quicquid autem ex eisdem codicibus adversus eos sonuerit, immissum ab infalsatoribus ore impudenti ac sacrilego non dubitent dicere? Cui furori eorum auctoritatem omnium librorum exstinguere atque abolere conanti iam supra, quantum suscepti operis ratio sinere videbatur, non pauca respondi.

Perhaps our opponents will maintain that these parallel passages quoted from the New Testament are themselves neither authoritative nor true: for they claim the impious liberty of holding and teaching, that whatever they deem favorable to their heresy was said by Christ and the apostles; while they have the profane boldness to say, that whatever in the same writings is unfavorable to them is a spurious interpolation. I have already at some length, as far as the intention of the present work required, exposed the unreasonableness of this assault upon the authority of the whole of Scripture.
