Les solitaires qui demeuraient avec Hilarion (car il y en avait alors plusieurs) lui amenèrent de Facidia, qui est un canton de Rhinocorure, ville d'Égypte, une femme aveugle depuis dix ans, laquelle lui dit qu'elle avait employé tout son bien à se faire traiter par les médecins. Le saint lui répondit : « Si vous l'aviez donné aux pauvres, Jésus-Christ qui est le véritable médecin vous aurait guérie. » Sur quoi cette pauvre femme redoublant ses prières et le conjurant d'avoir pitié d'elle, il cracha sur ses yeux et soudain, à l'exemple du Sauveur et par sa même vertu, elle recouvra la vue.

15.

Facidia is a hamlet belonging to Rhino-Corura, a city of Egypt. From this village a woman who had been blind for ten years was brought to the blessed Hilarion, and on being presented to him by the brethren (for there were now many monks with him) affirmed that she had spent all her substance on physicians. The saint replied: “If you had given to the poor what you have wasted on physicians, the true physician Jesus would have cured you.” But when she cried aloud and entreated pity, he spat into her eyes, in imitation of the Saviour, and with similar instant effect.
