Works Theodotus Excerpta e Theodoto Excerpts of Theodotus

XLVII.

The Word does not bid us renounce property; 1 but to manage property without inordinate affection; and on anything happening, not to be vexed or grieved; and not to desire to acquire. Divine Providence bids keep away from possession accompanied with passion, and from all inordinate affection, and from this turns back those still remaining 2 in the flesh.

  1. kteseos, instead of ktiseos, as in the text, and ktesin for ktisin in the next clause. ↩

  2. 'Anastrephei epi monous tous en sarki. For which, as slightly preferable, Sylburg. proposes eti menontas en sarki, as above. ↩
