(Sermo 10, aduersus quinque haereses)

Against Five Heresies

He will grant victory to the one who fights, who gave the courage to fight. Let not the multitude of enemies, nor the appearance of those warring, nor the shining, glass-like arms frighten us. David alone, a small and unarmed boy, struck down the great Goliath, strong and terrible with arms, and surrounded by a huge crowd, with a single stone's throw, and he disturbed and routed the entire camp of the Philistines 1. But what else did the stone sent by David's hand against Goliath signify, if not Christ coming against the devil from the seed of David?
