Oder sind sie vielleicht so kühn, auch diese Parallelen, die wir (!) eben aus dem Neuen Testament beigebracht haben, als gefälscht und verfälscht zu bezeichnen, indem sie sich jenes Privilegs bedienen, das ihnen der Teufel zur Verfügung stellt, nämlich all das, was ihnen im Evangelium und in den kanonischen Briefen für ihre Häresie förderlich scheint, beharrlich als Aussage Gottes und der Apostel zu betrachten und entsprechend zu verkünden, anderseits nicht zu zögern, alles, was in den selben Schriften für sie unbequem klingt, mit frecher und gotteslästerlicher Zunge als Einfügung von Fälschern zu bezeichnen? Auf diesen Wahnsinn, der versucht, die Autorität sämtlicher Bücher auszutilgen und zu zerstören, habe ich schon oben ausführlich geantwortet, soweit mir das im Rahmen des vorgesehenen Werkes möglich schien.

Perhaps our opponents will maintain that these parallel passages quoted from the New Testament are themselves neither authoritative nor true: for they claim the impious liberty of holding and teaching, that whatever they deem favorable to their heresy was said by Christ and the apostles; while they have the profane boldness to say, that whatever in the same writings is unfavorable to them is a spurious interpolation. I have already at some length, as far as the intention of the present work required, exposed the unreasonableness of this assault upon the authority of the whole of Scripture.
