37. Fortsetzung. Das Thier mit den sieben Köpfen und zehn Hörnern.

„Und ich sah das Weib trunken von dem Blute der Heiligen und von dem Blute der Zeugen Jesu. Und ich verwunderte mich, als ich sie sah großen Wunders. Und es sagte zu mir der Engel: Warum wunderst du dich? Ich will dir sagen das Geheimniß des Weibes und des Thieres, das sie trägt, welches die sieben Köpfe hat und die zehn Hörner. Das Thier, welches du gesehen, war und ist nicht und wird heraufsteigen aus dem Abgrund und gehet in's Verderben; und es werden sich wundern, die da wohnen auf der Erde — (deren Namen nicht geschrieben sind in das Buch des Lebens seit Grundlegung der Welt) — so sie sehen das Thier, welches war und nicht ist.“¹

"And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration. And the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou marvel? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and the ten horns. The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder (whose name was not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world) when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet shall be. ¹
