63. Dem Weltende geht der Glaubensabfall und die Herrschaft des Antichrist vorher.

S. 58 Auch sagt der selige Apostel Paulus im Briefe an die Thessalonicenser: „Wir bitten euch aber, Brüder, bei der Ankunft unseres Herrn Jesus Christus und unserer Einversammlung zu ihm, nicht sogleich aus eurer Fassung gebracht und eingeschüchtert zu werden, weder durch Geisteseingebung, noch auch durch Wort oder Brief, als wäre er von uns (geschickt), — wie wenn schon dastehe der Tag des Herrn. Niemand täusche euch in irgend welcher Weise; weil, wenn nicht gekommen ist der Abfall vorher und sich geoffenbart hat der Mensch der Sünde, der Sohn des Verderbens, der Widersacher und der sich erhebt über Alles, was Gott genannt wird oder Anbetungsgegenstand ist, so daß er in den Tempel Gottes sich setzt, sich erzeigend, daß er Gott sei. — Entsinnt ihr euch nicht, daß, als ich noch bei euch war, ich Dieß euch sagte? — Und jetzt wisset ihr, was aufhält, daß er geoffenbart wird zu seiner Zeit. Denn das Geheimniß der Ruchlosigkeit ist bereits wirksam, und daß der jetzt Aufhaltende aufhält, bis er aus der Mitte geschafft wird.¹ Und dann wird geoffenbart werden der Ruchlose, welchen der Herr Jesus vernichten wird mit dem Hauche seines Mundes und abthun wird durch die Klarheit seiner Ankunft — ihn, dessen Ankunft ist gemäß der Wirksamkeit des Satans in aller Kraft und in Zeichen und Wundern der Lüge und in jeglichem Truge des Unrechts für die, welche verloren gehen dafür, daß sie die Liebe zur Wahrheit nicht angenommen haben, um gerettet zu werden. Deßhalb wird Gott ihnen schicken ein Wirken des Truges, damit sie der Lüge glauben, auf daß gerichtet werden Alle, welche nicht der Wahrheit geglaubt, sondern Gefallen gehabt S. 59 haben an der Ungerechtigkeit.“² Isaias sagt aber: „Fortgenommen soll werden der Gottlose, damit er die Herrlichkeit des Herrn nicht sieht.“³

And the blessed Apostle Paul, writing to the Thessalonians, says: "Now we beseech you, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and our gathering together at it, ¹ that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letters as from us, as that the day of the Lord is at hand. Let no man deceive you by any means; for (that day shall not come) except there come the falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition, who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped: so that he sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Remember ye not, that when I was yet with you, I told you these things? And now ye know what withholdeth, that he might be revealed in his time. For the mystery of iniquity doth already work; only he who now letteth (will let), until he be taken out of the way. And then shall that wicked be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus shall consume with the Spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of His coming: (even him) whose coming is after the working of Satan, with all power, and signs, and lying wonders, and with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness." ² And Esaias says, "Let the wicked be cut off, that he behold not the glory of the Lord." ³
