47. Sie werden vom Antichrist getödtet werden.

Johannes sagt nämlich: „Und geben will ich meinen zwei Zeugen, und sie werden weissagen tausend zweihundert und sechzig Tage hindurch, angethan mit Bußkleidern. — Das ist jene halbe Woche von der Daniel gesagt hat, — dieß sind die zwei Ölbäume und die zwei Leuchter, die da Angesichts des Herrn der Erde stehen. Und wenn Jemand sie schädigen will, geht Feuer aus ihrem Munde und verzehret ihre Feinde; und wenn Jemand sie schädigen will, muß er also getödtet werden. Diese haben Gewalt, den Himmel zu schließen, damit es nicht regne in den Tagen ihrer S. 45 Weissagung, und sie haben Gewalt über die Wasser, sie zu verwandeln in Blut und zu schlagen die Erde mit jeglichen Plagen, so oft sie wollen.“¹ Wenn sie aber ihren Lauf und ihr Zeugniß vollendet haben, was sagt der Prophet? „Es wird das Thier, welches heraufsteigt aus dem Abgrund, Krieg führen mit ihnen und sie besiegen und sie tödten,“² weil sie dem Antichrist nicht haben Ehre geben wollen; Dieser ist das aufwachsende kleine Horn. Dieser nämlich, hochmüthigen Herzens, wird anfangen, sich selbst zu erhöhen, und sich für Gott ausgeben, indem er die Heiligen verfolgt und den Gesalbten lästert, wie Daniel sagt: „Ich betrachtete das Horn; und siehe, Augen, wie Menschenaugen, waren an diesem Horn und ein Mund, der Vermessenes redete. Und es öffnete seinen Mund und sprach Lästerung gegen Gott. Und jenes Horn führte Krieg mit den Heiligen und bewältigte sie, bis getödtet wurde das Thier und zu Grunde ging und sein Leib hingegeben ward zum Verbrennen im Feuer.“

For John says, "And I will give power unto my two witnesses, and they shall prophesy a thousand two hundred and threescore days, clothed in sackcloth." ¹ That is the half of the week whereof Daniel spake. "These are the two olive trees and the two candlesticks standing before the Lord of the earth. And if any man will hurt them, fire will proceed out of their mouth, and devour their enemies; and if any man will hurt them, he must in this manner be killed. These have power to shut heaven, that it rain not in the days of their prophecy; and have power over waters, to turn them to blood, and to smite the earth with all plagues as often as they will. And when they shall have finished their course and their testimony," what saith the prophet? "the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them," ² because they will not give glory to Antichrist. For this is meant by the little horn that grows up. He, being now elated in heart, begins to exalt himself, and to glorify himself as God, persecuting the saints and blaspheming Christ, even as Daniel says, "I considered the horn, and, behold, in the horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things; and he opened his mouth to blaspheme God. And that born made war against the saints, and prevailed against them until the beast was slain, and perished, and his body was given to be burned." ³
